CFA Institute Research Challenge Video Contest

The CFA Institute Research Challenge wants to hear from you! Follow these three easy steps to enter our first-ever video contest. The winner will receive a Kindle Fire pre-loaded with select CFA Institute publications and will be featured in our promotional materials for the 2013 competition season.

  1. Read over the Official Rules below.
  2. Create a 15 to 30 second video that answers the following question: “Why did you decide to participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge?” Be as creative as possible: you can answer on your own, or include your entire CFA Institute Research Challenge team. Please do not use any logos, including the CFA Institute logo, or other copyrighted materials in your videos.
  3. Submit your video here.

 

Official Rules

Rules:

  1. All persons featured in the video must be: (a) at least 18 years old; and (b) a registered participant in the FY 2012 CFA Institute Research Challenge and have competed or be officially slotted to compete in a CFA Institute Research Challenge local final.  
  2.  Entries must be received by 29 February 2012.
  3.  Videos must be 15 to 30 seconds in length and no larger than 50 MB.
  4. You must upload your video to YouTube using your own account and tag the video “CFA Institute Research Challenge Video Contest.” If you cannot access YouTube in your country, you may send the video file directly to researchchallenge@cfainstitute.org with the subject line “CFA Institute Research Challenge video contest.”
  5. Entrants shall not use profane language, violence, sex or personal attacks on people or organizations.
  6. Entrants shall not violate copyright laws or use brand names or logos in your video. You agree to indemnify CFA Institute for any claim, demand, judgment, or other allegation arising from your possible violation of someone's trademark, copyright, or other legally protected interest in any way in your video.
  7. Entrants agree not to make any commercial use of their submissions without prior written approval from CFA Institute.
  8. Your video may not contain any endorsement, solicitation, commercial, or similar content advocating for or against candidates for office, political issues, or commercial products.
  9. Your video must be original content for this contest. Do not submit a video that has been submitted elsewhere.
  10. Videos must be submitted to the CFA Institute Research Challenge website via the contest submission form.
  11. Winners must be able to provide CFA Institute with an original video file.
  12.  Videos that are submitted without an entry form will not be judged.
  13. You agree to comply with the YouTube Terms of Service http://www.youtube.com/static?gl=US&template=terms and Community Guidelines http://www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines. Entries that do not comply will be disqualified.  The Contest is not sponsored by YouTube, and entrants release YouTube from all liability related to the Contest.

Liability

  1. The Entrant agrees that:

a.      any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of this Contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the laws of the U.S.A;

b.      any claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual damages incurred but shall in no event include legal fees; 

c.      no punitive, incidental, special, consequential or other damages, including without limitation lost profits may be awarded (collectively “Special Damages”) and

d.      it hereby waives all rights to claim Special Damages and all rights to have any type of damages multiplied or increased.

  1. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing these terms and conditions shall be deemed to exclude or limit in any way CFA Institute's statutory liability in respect of: (i) death or personal injury caused to any entrant as a result of CFA Institute's negligence; or (ii) fraud or deceit.
  2. If any provision of these terms and conditions is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of these terms and conditions remain in full force and effect.
  3. CFA Institute reserves the right to alter or amend these terms and conditions or foreclose the Contest in exceptional circumstances, without prior notice.  Reasons that CFA Institute may modify or cancel the Contest include, without limitation, technological problems of the CFA Institute computer system regardless of cause, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest.
  4. Any attempt to defraud or violate these Official Rules in any way in connection with this Contest may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and/or CFA Institute reserves the right to disqualify that Entrant from this and all future Contests at CFA Institute’s sole and absolute discretion. 
  5. CFA Institute shall assume no responsibility or liability whatsoever for:

a.        incorrect, incomplete or inaccurate entry information whether caused by an Entrant, by any equipment or programming associated or utilized in this Contest, or by any human error, which may occur in the processing of the entries; or

b.       any technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, networks, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, incomplete or garbled transmissions, or failure of email or media (as appropriate) for any reason.

  1. Entrants agree to release CFA Institute, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, agents and employees, to the fullest extent permitted by law, from any and all liability, claims for damages arising out of the Entrant’s participation in the Contest and the use of any entries as stated herein.

Winner Selection:

  1. After the contest closes, videos will be judged to see if they present accurate information and comply with the requirements of the contest. Those videos that do not comply will be disqualified. All other videos will advance to round two where the videos will be rated by a panel of judges from CFA Institute based on message, accuracy, appropriateness of theme, creativity, and entertainment value. A winner will be selected and notified by email on or about 14 March 2012.
  2. The winner will be featured in our promotional materials for the 2013 CFA Institute Research Challenge and the winning video will be posted on CFA Institute Research Challenge website and the CFA Institute Research Challenge YouTube channel.
  3. Winners must sign an agreement with CFA Institute transferring copyright ownership of the video to CFA Institute, and providing permission from all participants to use their name and likeness.

Privacy

The personal information you submit on the entry form will only be used to contact you in the event you win the contest or if there is a question or issue regarding your video or its content. We will not disclose, give, sell, or transfer any personal information about you, unless required for law enforcement or by statute. As your video will be made available to the public, you should not include personal information about yourself or anyone else. All information collected on the entry form will be deleted at the conclusion of the contest. CFA Institute is using YouTube to host the videos for this contest. You are subject to YouTube's use, privacy, cookie, and security provisions also. Those provisions can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/t/privacy_at_youtube.
