The Institute for Financial Management and Research Chennai wins the CFA Institute Research Challenge India South Zonal Final

Chennai, November 24, 2011 – The Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR,, Chennai, has emerged as the winner of the CFA Institute Research Challenge India South Zonal Final, after competing with six other student teams from leading business schools of the South Zone on 20th November 2011. The competition (, organized by the Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP), is supported by three premier organizations including National Stock Exchange (NSE) (, Bloomberg ( and Bloomberg UTV ( as sponsors and long-term corporate partners.

“This completes the round of four zonal finals and we are pleased with the success of the competition pan-India. IFMR Chennai will compete with other Zonal winners i.e. SJSOM, IIT Mumbai (West Zone), IIFT Delhi (North Zone) and IIM Shillong (East Zone) in the India National Final on December 13th to select two teams to represent India in the Asia Pacific Regional Final in Hong Kong on March 2nd, 2012. The students from 32 leading business schools have benefited from the rigorous process over the past four months in conducting equity research, as well as presenting investment recommendations to panels of distinguished investment experts. We deeply appreciate the active partnership and contributions from our partners, National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bloomberg and Bloomberg UTV that has enabled IAIP to take this initiative to the next level,” said Namit Arora, CFA, Director, Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP).

CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global educational initiative promoting the best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills. Due to the growing number of participating teams in India, IAIP hosts four zonal finals (i.e. North, East, West, and South zones) which attract 32 leading business schools participating, followed by the National Final held in December.

Participating teams in the South Zone Final included Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore), Indian Institute of Management (Kozhikode), Indian School of Business (Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Technology (Chennai), The Institute for Financial Management and Research (Chennai), T.A. Pai Management Institute (Manipal), and Great Lakes Institute of Management (Chennai).

About CFA Institute Research Challenge

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition which tests the analytic, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Students have the unique opportunity to develop and present an equity research report and be mentored and judged by leading industry experts. Local CFA Institute member societies host and launch local competitions involving teams of three to five business and finance students from participating universities who work directly with a local company in researching and preparing a company analysis. The local winning teams will advance to the respective regional finals held in Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East & Africa; Americas; and New York regions. The regional winners will then advance to the global final in the hopes of being crowned the global champion.
