Indian Institute of Management Shillong wins the CFA Institute Research Challenge India East Zonal Final

Kolkata, November 11, 2011 – Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIM Shillong) has emerged as the  winner of the CFA Institute Research Challenge India East Zonal Final, after competing with five other student teams from leading business schools of the East Zone on 5th November 2011. The competition, organized by the Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP), is supported by three premier organizations including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) (www.nseindia.com), Bloomberg (www.bloomberg.com), and Bloomberg UTV (www.bloombergutv.comwww.yourmoneysite.com) as sponsors and long-term corporate partners.

“We are pleased with the success of the East Zone competition. The business school teams have demonstrated good analytical skills in conducting equity research over the past few months and presenting their research and investment recommendations to an esteemed panel of judges composed of investment industry experts and experienced finance practitioners. We look forward to hosting the India national final in December where zonal winners across India will compete for two places to represent India in Asia Pacific regional final to be held in February next year,” said Namit Arora, CFA, Director, Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP).

CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global educational initiative promoting the best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills. Due to the growing number of participating teams in India, IAIP hosts four zonal finals (i.e. North, East, West, and South zones) which attract 32 leading business schools participating, followed by the National Final held in December.

Other participating teams in the East Zonal Final included Indian Institute of Management Kolkata  (Kolkata); Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (Kharagpur); XLRI School of Business and Human Resources  (Jamshedpur); Xavier Institute of Management  (Bhubaneswar); and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Kolkata  (Kolkata).

About CFA Institute Research Challenge

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition which tests the analytic, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Students have the unique opportunity to develop and present an equity research report and be mentored and judged by leading industry experts. Local CFA Institute member societies host and launch local competitions involving teams of three to five business and finance students from participating universities who work directly with a local company in researching and preparing a company analysis. The local winning teams will advance to the respective regional finals held in Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East & Africa; Americas; and New York regions. The regional winners will then advance to the global final in the hopes of being crowned the global champion.
